Kids: avoid suited flyers
Letter to the Editor
by Simon Casey, Melrose

I am delighted to hear that Air New Zealand and Qantas have a policy of not seating unaccompanied children next to men (Nov 30). It's obviously based on documented evidence that, given half a chance, men are likely to assault a child on a plane.

The airlines, along with Children's Commissioner Cindy Kiro, must realise that all men are paedophiles and should be kept away from children. Children should be taught not to approach any man, especially those in business suits who fly.

But I'm surprised the airlines don't go further. Given the evidence of male attacks on women, why don't they just segregate the plane with women and children on one side and men on the other?

Of course no contact should be initiated by a male passenger to any woman or child on board unless in the presence of a flight attendant (female, of course).

This stupid thinking has almost succeeded in getting men out of teaching, which I am sure Dr Kiro and other feminists would be delighted about.

Still, there is a good side to this. I can see the resurgence of men-only bars and clubs where women and children are barred entry. After all, this would be only for their own safety.
